3D CT Segmentation for Clinical Evaluation of Knee Prosthesis Operations
نویسندگان
چکیده
In surgical knee replacement, the damaged knee joint is replaced with artificial prostheses. An accurate clinical evaluation must be carried out before applying knee prostheses to ensure optimal outcome from surgical operations and to reduce the probability of having long-term problems. Useful information can be inferred from CT scans of the knee area, that can be used to estimate the stress that will be acting on the prosthesis being implanted. This information can be exploited to tailor the prothesis to the patient’s anatomy. We present some ideas for a system intended to help surgeons in evaluating the post-operative outcome of knee prosthesis implantation. We also show some preliminary results about the 3D segmentation of CT data, that is the main activity of our lab in the project.

Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the geometry of the distal femur and the proximal tibia in the osteoarthritic knee using 3D reconstructive CT scan imaging. Methods: 449 patients with knee osteoarthritis were treated surgically in our center with patient-specific technology total knee arthroplasty. Preoperatively, all the patients underwent a CT scan according to a standard ...
متن کاملClinical significance of additional lateral imaging in diagnosis of prosthesis infection by combined Tc-99m labeled leukocyte/bone marrow scintigraphy
Introduction: Recently the most accurate diagnostic method in the diagnosis of prosthesis infection is the combination of Tc-99m labeled leukocyte/bone marrow imaging. However the diagnostic efficiency of the test is influenced because of its low spatial resolution. Recently SPECT/CT imaging is implicated in this test with efficient additional diagnostic improvement. In the dep...
متن کاملA Hybrid Method for Segmentation and Visualization of Teeth in Multi-Slice CT scan Images
Introduction: Various computer assisted medical procedures such as dental implant, orthodontic planning, face, jaw and cosmetic surgeries require automatic quantification and volumetric visualization of teeth. In this regard, segmentation is a major step. Material and Methods: In this paper, inspired by our previous experiences and considering the anatomical knowledge of teeth and jaws, we prop...
